She is then educated about the power of her melanin, how it protects her from the Sun, and learns that it is one of her many superpowers! This is the first book of the Princess series. Princess and The Power of Melanin was created to uplift young girls and combat the colorism that often exists in the World. It is important to prevent young girls from viewing their melanin as a negative attribute. Sometimes kids can be mean to each other and we want this book to serve as a tool to give young girls so much confidence that no bully can faze them. We want the story of Princess to remind every melanated girl to love themselves! This book was authored by Jeremy C. McCool and Dr. Anthony McBride.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Jeremy C. McCool is a media personality, college educator, author, and creative
from Chicago, Illinois. McCool has hosted radio shows in multiple markets and
is a scholar in the discipline of media studies. McCool obtained his bachelor’s
degree in broadcasting, and master’s degree in communication from Western
Illinois University. McCool currently teaches college courses ranging from
radio production to podcasting. McCool began writing children’s books to reach
black youth with positive imagery and messaging. McCool’s first book was
Princess and The Power of Melanin, co-authored with Dr. Anthony McBride. He has
made a commitment to empowering and entertaining through children’s media.

Dr. Anthony McBride received his doctorate in education and a certificate in
conflict resolution from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He
worked in social services and juvenile justice for seventeen years. He is an
expert in the field of community education and enjoys playing sports and
spending time with his family. He is an Associate Professor at Western Illinois
University School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. This is his
sixth children’s book. His previous books include Shaheana, The Lost Cat,
The Fish That Was Afraid to Swim, Willie the Whiskers and Princess and
The Power of Melanin, co-authored with Jeremy C. McCool. You can find his

What
inspired you to coauthor this book?
We wanted to provide
young girls with melanin skin to view it as a positive and not a negative.
Where
did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?
The
book cover inspiration is a reflection of what all young children will
experience hanging out being kids but also being assisted by a crossing guard.
We wanted to highlight a diverse population of students fascinated by the magic
of the character
Who
has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?
I
would say, our internal drive to promote and encourage literacy skills, empower
self-esteem, and address colorism.
What
were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?
Making
sure the message delivered the right tone and balancing thoughts and ideas with
the co-author.

is your target audience, and why?
Ages
5-11. This is a age children are prevalent to being teased, peer pressure, and
academic challenges.
What
do you consider your greatest success in life?
I
would say one of the greatest success for both of us is writing this book
What
one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?
I
believe we see a joint vision of reaching a population of readers that sometimes
may be left out of the stories of feeling good about themselves and seeing
themselves as superheroes.
