The substance of Iteration is hair-raising. It’s the futuristic story of what could actually potentially happen to humanity if artificial intelligence is allowed to evolve to the point that it takes over the world (with the help of a human mad scientist, of course). It is made more realistic by referring to the humans fighting the overtaking AI as “the resistance,” hearkening back to the French Resistance in WWII. There is a priest in the story and references to the Design (capitalized), which infers God.
Iteration moves quickly back and forth between not only timelines and locations, but dimensions/alternate realities, sometimes even in the same chapter.
This is the first fiction book from this author. It is this reviewer’s hope that he keeps honing his craft and writing more fiction. Iteration itself could very easily become a series of books or a series of spin-off books for each subplot/character.
I would recommend this book for Young Adult and Adult readers alike who are interested in technology, resistance, science fiction, or apocalyptic writing, and who appreciate a good ending.
