The Lamb King: God's Eternal Love Story by Patti Mustain

Dear Readers:

Now that Thanksgiving is closing in on us, it is time to concentrate on all things that we are grateful and thankful for. I don't know about you, but I have a laundry list to be thankful for this year. In fact, I have to praise, HIM, for getting me through one of the most difficult years of my life. As a refresher, I was in a major car wreck, breaking my ulna and radius, fractured to neck vertebras, fractured my shoulder, and tore my rotator cuff. By all accounts, I shouldn't have come out of that wreck alive. The only thing I can figure is that He wasn't finished with me and His eternal love carried me. That's why I love today's BOOK OF THE DAY, "The Lamb King: God's Eternal Love Story," by Patti Mustain. This is certainly a book that I consider a must-read as it is a wonderful account of God's love for His children, without hesitation and without limitations. Enjoy!

The Lamb King: God's Eternal Love Story

The Lamb King...God's eternal love story. The Gospel message from Genesis to Revelation. Through the pages of this book, we will see how God sacrificed Himself, to the point of death, to secure an intimate relationship with humankind. The concept for this book came from my desire to share these truths in a simple way with those who are seeking God. If we aren’t familiar with the “back story” of God’s great love for us, and how it was ultimately realized through His sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, then it is difficult to understand the scope of His love and our need for Him as our personal Savior and King. As you read through these pages, I encourage you to look for the thread of God’s Kingship that is knit within the story. Look also for the thread of sacrificial blood woven throughout, and how the blood-shedding, culminates with Jesus.

I love this little gem. It is so much more than just a book. It is a tool for deepening your relationship with God. The lined pages are perfect for reflection on the verses and chapters of text, and the color photos are such a beautiful addition. The book is the perfect size to carry in a purse and each chapter is concise enough to devour on a park bench at lunch or in the waiting room of a doctor's office. This is a book I will be enjoying for many years to come.

What a wonderful book on many levels! It clearly conveys God's consistent love for and reaching out to all mankind through the centuries. Regardless of the reader's Bible knowledge or belief, this book is easy to understand, well-written, very interesting and supplemented with beautiful photos. Each chapter includes pages for journaling, studying extra verses, contemplation, and prayer. It is also great to read the big picture of God’s heart and His plans through the years. I surveyed the entire book in one hour and was impressed by how God has been constant in His love, forgiveness, and seeking our best throughout history. Although this book is well worth reading on its own merits, I have to mention that, despite being considered a "paperback", the binding and materials far surpass any paperback I've seen, and it seems as durable as any hard-bound book. The Lamb King is well worth your reading.

I love this book! It's very readable for those well versed in the Scriptures but also for someone just seeking to know what the Bible is all about. If one wants to dig deeper, the author asks some thought-provoking questions to ponder and provides plenty of room to journal or write down notes. She also references Scripture verses for further study. The author lays out God's love story that is consistent through the old and new Testaments and I love that she shares her own photographs throughout the book. I'm buying several copies to give as gifts this Christmas season!

This is a wonderful retelling of the story of God’s love for us. Who knew that it would stir fresh insights even when the familiar Bible stories have been read many times? The pages are enhanced with Patti’s beautiful photos that illustrate each message. Thought-provoking questions prompt further reflection after each piece of the story and personalize the scripture. This book is perfect for learning the basics of the gospel in a simple, non-threatening way as well as for those old souls who want to dig deeper with helpful Bible citations. Great Christmas gift!!

I've heard it said that, sometimes, the Bible can be hard to understand. This book is a beautifully simple summary of the story of God's love for us, as written in the Bible. The extremely short chapters are perfect for a daily reading, and the questions offer the chance to go deeper into the subject, if so desired. It is a great book for those who want to understand the Bible more clearly and for those who are asking questions about who God is and why Jesus came to Earth.

This book is an amazing tool to beheld. This book has captured the essence of God's love for us. This book was interactive and encouraged me to reflect and think deeper on these stories in the bible. I love that it gave me space to write my thoughts as I began to read the scripture further and further and was prompted by the questions asked within the book.

The organizational layout of the books is really amazing, with deep and meaningful text, beautiful imagery and space to interactively jot down my thoughts and emotions.

Life in the Abrodi

Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

I was Born in the United Kingdom, but later on was taken to Nigeria by my parents while I was a toddler. In that sense, I grew up in Nigeria, Africa and I had my primary, secondary and university education in Nigeria. I studied law and qualified as a Solicitor and Barrister of the Supreme court of Nigeria.

I returned back to the UK, in her 30's and have lived in the UK till date. I obtained my Masters in Migration and Law at the Queen Mary's University of London. I regularly give presentations around the study of migration in academic circles.
I developed the power of storytelling in my early teens, having been largely influenced by my parents, who instilled in me the love for reading and writing.

I would describe myself as a writer by night, I am the author of two academic books: Africans in the UK: Migration, Integration and Significance and Globalisation, Human Security and Social Inclusion.

I enjoy reading, travelling, and old school music, smooth jazz and live concerts.

What inspired you to author this book?

As far back, as I can remember, I have wanted an opportunity to develop my creative mind and writing a book was one of the ways I could do this . I have written two non fiction books and the goals of these books were to address a few of the world's social issues that are of paramount importance to me. I am also an international speaker and have spoken on issues around migration, ethnicity, and inequality. I felt the need to address these issues in a fictional format and writing a novel seemed more appropriate, as readers are able to identify and engage with the characters that way.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

Nearly everyone judges a book by their cover, even some say don't ! After doing some research about the cover design, I thought it would be a good idea to show what is in the book, through the book covers. The cover book depicts the two main characters in the book in their earlier years in the UK, looking at the barriers against them, the red tape, the glass ceiling and hoping they would scale through.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

In my case, this is not as straightforward because different people have played their roles in helping me to become who I am. However with regards to relentless pursuit of goals, I would say Les Brown. I have listened to a lot of his speeches and an overriding theme in his motivational sessions are 'You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream'.

With regards to writing, I would say I have over the years stood on the shoulders of certain African writers, most of whom I have never met personally. Authors such as Flora Nwakpa Chinua Achebe and Wole Soyinka influenced me in the area of English literature, while recently novelists like Toni Morrison and Chhimamanda Ngozi Adichie have been an encouragement to keep writing.

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

I would say writer's block, as almost every writer may have experienced this at some point , it is not every time that I felt creative in my writing I must confess and so I have deleted plots and rewritten them a couple of times before the work was finally completed. I also had the challenges of getting a suitable editor who would understand the choice of the languages in which some parts of the novel was written. For example, there are characters that spoke in diverse language to English and I have had editors who had a problem with this. It was a challenge getting the right editor but got there in the end.

Tell your readers about your book.

Akon and Lara had worked hard to build their careers and raise a young family in their native Nigeria. An accomplished manager and lawyer respectively, both on the cusp of success, they decided to escape the problem of insecurity and pursue greater opportunities abroad. Confident that their love would sustain them, Akon left his wife and young son to set up their new home in the UK.

Despite our best intentions, life seldom gives us what we want. The struggle to thrive in a foreign country amidst different cultures can either make or break you. This migrating couple would need all the love, faith, and hope they can muster to face life’s often unkind, painful, and unexpected challenges. Add to this gnawing secrets that had the power to tear them apart, the strain of surviving as immigrants in a new land would become nearly unbearable.
Follow Akon and Lara’s journey across the globe as they inch towards a desired future.

This novel contains a smattering of local languages, reflecting the cultural diversity of the characters in the story.

Who is your target audience, and why?

My target readers are first of all novelists who are concerned about social issues and are interested in learning about other cultures . For instance, there is a negative portrayal of migrants and other minority ethnic groups by the media, therefore educating these groups of people by stating the facts may help people's unconscious bias.

The other group of readers who this novel is targeted at are 'prospective migrants ' the novel creates an opportunity for people to weigh their options before they moved out of their homelands to other foreign lands.

Finally the novel is aimed at readers over the age of 18 including both men and women. I would encourage Black men specifically to read the book because the book answers some of the challenges they face living abroad not only in their careers, but their family life.

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

This is also a very complex question in that I define my personal success based on the goals that I have personally set for myself and not what the society desires of me. I would say my greatest success in life is to be given a second chance to develop my writing abilities after being through a traumatic experience. In the last five years, I have published three books and also written 4 peer reviewed academic journals, although I have not earned much profits from my writing career, I am not discouraged as I believe I have only just begun, and it is not over until I win.

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

Again, this is not a straightforward question for me, as my goal is not to be competitive as I believe that writers in my genre have carved a niche for themselves. This is my debut novel and a new release, so it is too early to say what sets me apart from others. I would conclude that the reviews from readers have been mostly encouraging, and I have been told that the novel is fit for purpose with twists and plots that make this adaptable for a drama/movie.

Who or what has been your greatest influence on your style?

My style mixes controllable and uncontrollable abstracted techniques to produce bright whimsical landscapes. Through trial and error plus inspiration pulled from names such as Van Gogh, Munch or Dali; the styles produced are visually appealing to a vast audience.

How did you get started in your career?

I’ve spent the last 25 years in the hospitality, medical, retail and finance management industry. I graduated with my diploma in Hospitality Management and later decided to complete Interior Design school. I hold a 4.0 GPA in both disciplines, but life has a way of pulling us in different directions so; I’ve only been painting landscapes since 2020 shortly before COVID. The artistic works have increased since then and shall continue.

What struggles or barriers did you face or are you facing to promote yourself and your work?

I am fortunate to have works currently installed at the University of Missouri Saint Louis and Washington University in as well as some gallery showings but the issue for me comes down to my price points. What I mean by that is; I price my pieces based on my time and materials. The time it takes to produce 1 of my pieces can take up to 2 weeks simply due to my unique artistic techniques which gives that color pop and abstracted look. Therefore, I’m struggling with making pieces more affordable for all audiences.

What life lessons have you learned and how have they influenced your style?

My mother is mentally disabled; has been since I was 13 years old, and I’ve been taking care of her ever since. I’ve learned that each person lives a separate reality from everyone else. I’ve learned emotional intelligence on a level not many get to experience. I’ve learned patience. I’ve learned to pay very close attention to every single detail at a given moment and I’ve learned that I do not have total control over everything, and this is why I stated my style mixes controllable and uncontrollable techniques to produce bright and interesting landscapes.
