I love the characterisation, especially of the local Sardinian people. I love the depth to the character of Elise and her journey to find herself, and to heal her heart, after her abusive marriage. I love the hero of the book, Beppe, and find him so real as a person that he seems alive beyond the words on the page. I love the development of Beppe and Elise's relationship, and the attention the author pays to exploring their feelings.

People often ask me what made me want to set the book in Sardinia. I fell in love with the island the first time we went there and I wanted it to be like a third character in the book. To me, it will always be the Enchanted Island. However, their culture and deep religious conviction would make it difficult to accept a situation like Elise and Beppe's, especially in 1969, so it made me think what might happen to them.

We first travelled to  Sardinia in 1972; It was not our first choice! We had decided to go to Corsica, as the family wanted to go to an island and I spoke French. The travel agent, a good friend, rang back and said Corsica was full so had booked us into the south of Sardinia. I must admit we had to go and look it up as we were not sure where it was exactly.

Sardinia proved to be unique with its many languages and proud independent people who were always eager to tell you about the island if you asked. It has outstanding scenery and amazing festivals and we have been back every year since that first visit in 1972.

I first began writing during the day when my children were at school. My husband had moved his office away from home for the first time and suddenly I had a lot of time to myself.

We moved quite a bit in the following years and the manuscript was packed away with all the other books one collects over the years. When I retired, my husband suggested that I find the book and have another look at it, and I set about rewriting it.

Sardinia is an extremely romantic island. Its beautiful beaches and wild mountains are enough to stir the imagination of even the least romantic soul, so it was an obvious choice for the setting.

I have a limited writing background. I am dyslexic, but with the arrival of a computer and spellcheck, life is much easier - although I still write the first two drafts of a manuscript in longhand.

I wrote a book about my father in conjunction with someone who knew him and his business and I have written a book of poems about Sardinia, and had a few letters published in the local and national papers. However, this is my first novel.

I set the book in 1969 because communication with the island was almost impossible at that time. Phone calls had to be booked, taking hours if not days. It was relatively unknown, as tourism had not taken off on the island, which was ideal for the book.

As for the characters, they  are funny things. When you start writing, they are in your head and you think you know them; but when they go on the page, they start to take on a life of their own. By the time I reach the end of the two longhand drafts and know how the book ends, I find the characters wouldn't do things I thought they would, or do something surprising. The ideas in your head finally become characters alive on the page.

I tend not to read novels at home as I always have my head either in my book researching something. Mondays is washday in my house and I listen to an audiobook which I love; being read to is just magic and so I leave reading to the beach. My favourite reads are Jeffery Archer - he is such a wonderful storyteller - Lesley Pearce and of course Daphne du Maurier.

At the moment I am putting together a story set in Sardinia in 1855, around the time of the Risorgimento, which is about two families.  It is a story of revenge, vendetta and honour, but of course, most of all love.

I'm a disabled veteran who was paralyzed by a motorcycle accident. I was injured in 2012, just a month before I was deployed again, and I had to watch my soldiers leave without me. I now am an advocate for the disabled. I started Handicap Help during COVID-19 to help other disabled people. We are now 15k strong.

I was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Brooklyn, NYC, NY. I am the youngest of 4 children my parents had. I grew up in and out of Church, and since I was young, I knew I was Gay and despised myself for it for decades. I did not understand many things about God, why I was this way, etc. Later in life, and through the Love of Christ in my life, He led me to great revelation as to my condition, which was the only way I accepted myself because I know God Loves me no matter what.

What inspired you to author this book?

The inspiration for this book was my life and my walk with Christ, since childhood. The conflict and internal turmoil that created within the breadth and scope of who I am and my questioning of God's Love or hatred toward me for me being Gay yet believing and living him. This book chronicles that relationship and my growth, and it also has Biblical, Scientific, and Anecdotal evidence as to why I DID NOT CHOOSE to be gay, as many say.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

The inspiration for the cover came from my own life, and so was the title. It is a "Questomation:" a question mark and an exclamation mark, which I'm in the process of trademarking. This Symbol represents my life because it depicts me as questioning God's love for me (am i? portion of symbol and title) in the context of being Gay, and then it ends up with and it ends up with a statement of "I AM!," (Second portion of title) because I AM A Son of God (3rd. portion of title). To start life questioning and knowing is awesome growth: hence, the book.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

I've always been some sort of loner and to myself. Though I can be lively too, I am mainly reserved. I never really had heroes nor wanted to be like anyone but myself, whatever that was. and I have been this way since I was a Child. My greatest inspiration has been God, actually, because going through the process of basically hating me for being gay to accepting me and even loving and respecting me was awesome and great, and it was God who guided me through this process. Man would either say that I was going to hell at churches or would try to persuade me away from God. But God taught me about me through himself.

What were the struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

OMG! This is my first book, ever, and I did not have any help from anyone other than praying to God and doing what I thought He'd put in my heart to do. I first wrote this book in longhand, and every day for a year or so, I would just get up every morning and write for hours. Then came the process of putting it into the computer, which was another can of worms I had to handle. And I did. the editing and so forth. It was quite the adventure that took me like 5 years too. It was easier when I was unemployed, but when I got a job, it greatly hindered my writing to the point of stopping and making me feel like a bad human being, so I quit the job and eventually started writing and finished the book.

Tell your readers about your book.

This book is about learning to execute the power to become a Son of God as you are, in Christ. Why Gay was NOT my Choice, God made me this way. I will prove it Biblically, Scientifically, and Anecdotally.  You too, will prove it Anecdotally.  Even being Gay, I AM A Beloved Son of God in whom My Abba Father is well Pleased with me simply being me, in Christ.  You will also be able to confirm my Gaysoquence™ with your life.

Who is your target audience, and why?

My target audience is anyone who feels God hates them or is angry with them for who they are. Yes, the gay community, but also straight people who have been bombarded at churches and told that they will go to hell for their mistakes, etc. It is also for those who want to learn how to unleash the power to become Sons of God because the Bible says that the World eagerly awaits for the sons of God to reveal themselves, and many, if not most, of Church folks, are stuck in the Child of God or Man/Woman or God mode, and the word does not say that the world eagerly awaits for them to be revealed, for they have been revealed already and its already in the Bible. I wonder what type of World we would live in if the Sons of God revealed themselves; what does that mean, and what would it look like?

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

My greatest success in life has been my relationship with God because I no longer question his love for me. I don't fear going to hell because I am His. Knowing this, I can literally do all things because He fortifies me and will never leave me nor Forsake me. That's a win!

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

I guess this book is part Christian and part biographical in a sense because it chronicles my journey with God. My uniqueness is in that I am a gay dude who is not professing that being gay is not a sin, for the Bible says that it is, so it is. But my twist is that God has revealed it to me. Evidence in the Bible that says why I am this way, and it was not my choice. If God healed some from being great, fine, and good for them, but not all are healed, He heals some from cancer, yet others die from it. I am me in Christ and that is what God wants me to be, so my me-ness in Christ is what my world eagerly awaits to be revealed. Me, in Christ, is all I need.
