Nanook is a caring polar bear who lives in the Arctic. But when his igloo starts melting, Nanook must find a way to save his friends and his home. He knows that the people who can help are also those who’ve caused the problem and he must find a way to convince leaders to act on the climate crisis!

This educational rhyming picture book is aimed at 5-7 year olds. It intends to explain the climate crisis in a way that younger children can get to grips with. The book is released ahead of the COP26 climate change summit, and arrives just after the IPCC have released their report saying that current climate change is “unprecedented” in thousands of years, and that “it is unequivocal” that human activities are responsible for them. It focuses on Greenland and the Arctic as this is where rapid climate change is being witnessed, and what happens in the Arctic will affect the rest of the world.
REVIEWS OF NANOOK AND THE MELTING ARCTIC

"Nanook and the Melting Arctic will inspire so much discussion. From the portraits of Greta Thunberg and James Hansen on Nanook’s igloo wall to his signs made from plastic pollution to his heart-felt pleas for people to change their ways, children will see just how important it is that we work together to protect the Earth." - Kate Heap, Scope for Imagination

"A gentle rhyming story is a perfect way to help us talk to our little ones about the problems that our planet faces. Perfect timing too with the upcoming COP26 conference where the world's leaders take centre stage and hopefully agree on some serious action." - Nicky Hudson, It’s All About Stories

Praise for Hedgey-A and the Honey Bees

“This really is a superb children’s book.” – Georgina Downs, Multi Award Winning Journalist Campaigner

“Awareness of the natural environment around us is vital, and bee colonies are in great trouble, so this book is extremely well timed and may start junior naturalists off to a good way of thinking about nature… HEDGEY-A AND THE HONEY BEES starts a series called ‘Time To Care’ which is a great message. Because we all need to care about others, and that makes the world work better.” – Clare O’Beara, Fresh Fiction

I'm Daniel Micko. I'm a writer. I was born in University City, St. Louis, MO. Grew up in Missouri, Georgia, Florida, and the Bay Area. I currently live in the Bay Area. I graduated from Georgia State with a Film Analysis degree (Undergrad) and did my Master's work at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I love storytelling and all mediums. I've work hard to shape my process.

What inspired you to author this book?

My first book. It was an amazing experience, and I want to write more books. I believe I'm building a universe or a series through them. For Predator / Nomad I got my idea from a research lab that used stem cells and I ran with it from there.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

The two vectors of the person and the shadow really intrigued me. That was the basis. I just kept seeing a person with an odd shadow. It became metaphorical to me.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

My aunt Breggie James and my father Steven Micko. My dad passed away in 1997, but he had writings that never got published. My aunt has written two books independently and I watched her take that journey. Her actions made me believe writing and publishing a book is possible.

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?

The marriage of character with plot became a difficulty. I had so many notes surrounding these characters with thoughts and feelings that I wasn't sure exactly how things would end. Following the characters from place to place became an adventure.

Tell your readers about your book.

Predator / Nomad is a story about right and wrong. When you read it, you should be conflicted with the choices each character makes and why they are doing it. It's an allegory and comment on our society. Social deviance and disruption are also underlying themes. The book is meant to seem mundane but once you try to decide the hero or the villian, the themes become more prominent.

R.L. Dailey - Author Interview

R.L. Dailey

Hunting for Light

Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

I grew up in Washington, MO and grew up with the town. When I was a child the town boasted of having a Walmart and now the town is full of popular stores while maintaining its small town riverfront charm. I am the oldest of three, went to Catholic school, and went to college to become a high school history teacher. I have 3 kids of my own. My husband and I are high school sweet hearts. And I teach world history and write for a living. I love books, movies, hiking, camping, and spending time with family and friends. My imagination has always been overactive and I am passionate about fighting for the underdog and making the world a better place.

What inspired you to author this book?

I have always wanted to be a writer. I have been inspired by the ever popular J.R.R. Tolkien, Pierce Brown, Jane Austen, J.K. Rowling, and Nora Roberts. But what really inspired me to write and finish a book were my own children and students. I always encourage my children to go for their dreams. I teach seniors and encourage them to live life to the fullest, and express that if you live your dream you will be happy, even if you aren’t a millionaire, because each day will feel fulfilling. So… I finally decided to take the advice I was giving out.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

My book is about bringing light to a dark world. It is a suspenseful book with a positive vibe. My daughter is an aspiring artist and she created it from my description of the book.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

My husband was the most encouraging. He stood by me and supported my dream to finish the book. And as I mentioned: I have always wanted to be a writer. I have been inspired by the ever popular J.R.R. Tolkien, Pierce Brown, Jane Austen, J.K. Rowling, and Nora Roberts. But what really inspired me to write and finish a book were my own children and students. I always encourage my children to go for their dreams. I teach seniors and encourage them to love life to the fullest, and express that if you love your dream you will be happy, even if you aren’t a millionaire because each day will feel fulfilling. So… I finally decided to take the advice I was giving out.

What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written

Being a mom of 3, teacher, wife, daughter, and sister made writing this book a challenge. But as my husband put ever so gently, I needed a hobby. I needed something fully my own that I could enjoy. So here it is. A work truly from the heart.

Tell your readers about your book.

My book is a book from the heart. It encompasses everything I love about my favorite books: thrilling suspense, humor, love, sassy women, strong personalities, humorous men, wise teachers, friendship, a dark bad guy, and a deeper meaning. It provides content to encourage discussion.

After a fateful dangerous night, a young anthropologist awakens traditional powers deep within for uniting a society and destroying an ancient menacing evil.

HUNTING FOR LIGHT is an entertaining and suspenseful novel about a young anthropologist, Kate Murphy, who is thrust into an unexpected reality where the balance of good and evil are dependent upon her abilities and decisions. After an incident that leaves her feeling out of control and helpless, she is forced to reforge her identity embracing the power within to unite an ancient society bound for protecting mankind. However, the ever-present evil preventing her from this goal is relentless. She is presented with the daunting tasks of becoming a warrior, healing a broken world, and uniting a diverse group gifted with similar abilities. Kate, a 21st century descendant of 1800’s immigrants, is about to find out just how powerful and dangerous family tradition can be.

HUNTING FOR LIGHT is a speculative fiction novel with elements of magical realism for adults of all ages who yearn to discover their own hidden empowerment and a mysterious kind of hope. The story embraces an innocence that withstands the tumultuous unpredictable nature of the 21st century. Choosing just one genre for this novel is difficult as the story encompasses suspense, fantasy, history, humor, and love. It is the first of a trilogy. The second book is almost finished.

Who is your target audience, and why?

BUY NOW

My target audience is anyone over the age of 18 who enjoys a good story with depth and elements of multiple genres. Anyone who likes mystery, suspense, a surprising twist, speculative fiction, and commercial fiction will love this book!

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

BUY NOW

My greatest success is my life…each mistake and success has brought me where I am today and I wouldn’t change it for anything! Everything in my life is still evolving and always will be. My family is my greatest source of pride and success. Nothing beats family. It’s forever.

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

The thing that sets me apart is that I write combining multiple genres and have a unique outlook on events. I am a history teacher and have spent a lot of time studying the stories of mankind. I bring the element of the past together with those of the present. My book reveals the value of our past and how unique each person’s past is. I also write from the heart so what you see is what you get. I don’t know how to write or be any other way. That’s one of my themes in the book as well.
