Tell
your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now,
where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.
I
grew up in Mumbai, India, and lived there for 26 years of my life before
immigrating to the USA. I now live in New York and work in the finance industry;
however, I always had a passion for art and writing. Growing up in a
conservative household, I was never allowed to sharpen my skills for my passion,
as my parents believed that my hobbies would not pay the bills. When I moved to
the USA, I decided to continue pursuing my passion for writing and painting and
started working on my first novel. While working in the finance industry I
worked on many projects as an editor and a ghost writer as a freelancer. My
novel is a creative non-fiction based on true events in the LGBTQ+ community.
The storyline delves into the protagonist facing false conviction and jail time
as she falls in love with the niece of a highly influential and connected
businessman/mobster. The story shows Audrey Carter (Protagonist) 's struggles
and challenges as she and Kiara Adams get into an emotional battle with their
families and the society around them.
What
inspired you to author this book?
This
book is based on my story with fictional parts for dramatic effects.
Where
did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?
The
book cover came from my own imagination. I sketched out a rough copy on a piece
of paper while working on the manuscript.
Who
has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?
To
me, the society in which I grew up has been a big influence. Gender
discrimination and societal judgment toward people who are different have been
major influences, combined with my own experiences. My wife, too, has been an
influence. She, too, faced a lot of discrimination in her own household, but
that's a story for the next novel.
What
were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?
This
book took me 2 years to complete. When I originally started it, I was diagnosed
with PTSD due to my experience back in my country as a Lesbian. Writing the
incidents was something I wasn't truly ready for, and I put a hold on the
project. Last year, when I picked up where I left off, I faced many
difficulties in remembering the incidents and writing them very descriptively.
I wanted to do justice to both the book's characters and put a lot of work into
researching the legalities and laws on the LGBTQ+ community in India.
Tell
your readers about your book.
In the
conservative and religious confines of a traditional society, Audrey, a young
woman harboring a profound secret, finds herself entangled in a web of power,
love, and societal expectations.
Silver Lining delves into Audrey's
grappling with her identity amidst the watchful eyes of a conservative and
judgmental community.
However,
Audrey’s life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Kiara, the niece of a
wealthy and influential figure named Ronald Brown. Kiara’s entrance into
Audrey’s life sparks a connection that transcends societal norms and
expectations.
As Audrey and
Kiara nurture their relationship and get to know each other while navigating
the complexities of their burgeoning romance, Ronald, driven by his pride and
fueled by his connections, wants to crush their love before it can fully bloom
by using every resource and influence at his disposal to intimidate and
manipulate Audrey, determined to keep her away from his niece and family at all
cost.
Despite
Ronald’s relentless efforts to tear them apart, will Audrey and Kiara find a
way out of the clutches of their judgmental society? Will their love become a
beacon of hope in a world filled with prejudice and oppression, inspiring
others to embrace their true selves and defy society's constraints? Will it
truly be them against the world?
Silver Lining
tells us a tale of true courage, resilience, and the enduring power of true
love in the face of adversity. It’s not just a story but a declaration that
celebrates the bravery of individuals who dare to defy conventions and embrace
their true selves, against all odds.
Who is
your target audience, and why?
LGBTQ+
Community and immigrants, non-fiction readers
What
do you consider your greatest success in life?
I
consider the completion of this novel as my greatest success yet; it was a
difficult one as it involved my mental health and my own experiences.
What
one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?
I
believe the projects I overtake are always well-researched, not just through Google.
Still, I also research the values the characters are brought up with, their
mindset, mental health, upbringing, etc. I dive into the creative aspects of
how to lay out the story; since I also have an artistic side, my novels are
usually visioned by how they would look if they were to be transformed into a
motion picture. I like to add minute details of the surroundings, characters'
thoughts, perspectives, and dialogues. Since I like to write creative
non-fiction, I keep the true events as the center of focus and build the scenes
around it for dramatic effects; however, sometimes I don't really need to build
a scene around certain events.
