With the election of the 49th President of the United States of America, NASA discovers an asteroid’s trajectory changed course after passing the moon now headed for Earth. Destination 9/11 is a fantastic gem of a book. This book kept me up, turning page after page, unable to put it down! Ret. Brig Gen Kelvin Coppock’s voice sheds new light on a day many people think they know all there is to know about it. His story must be in the historical record, and now it is.
Leading up to the story of The Day is the story of a man who spent much of his adult life in the Air Force. I had no idea that branch of the military did so much. I have encouraged everyone I know with a tie to the military or an interest in that day to read this unputdownable book.

I loved how General Coppock intertwined the story of his life and military training that led up to his briefing of the President. Destination 9/11 is an absolute must read! This book kept me glued to my seat, turning page after page, unable to put it down! Ret. Brig Gen Kelvin Coppock’s voice and uplifting personality shines throughout this memoir, adding a unique and inspiring perspective to a tragic event so well known. Coppock offers never-before-seen information, straight from the source, not only about secret exercises, missions, and plans at play during September 11, 2001, but also insider information about the United States Air Force and what it is like serving as a man who is incredibly devoted to his country. As soon as I finished this memoir I was filled with an overwhelming feeling of awe and satisfaction, knowing that I had just read something important and memorable.

Overall, if, in a perfect world, 9/11 did not happen, this memoir would still be an incredibly interesting and exciting read, it isn’t every day that the general population hears from those so intertwined in the United States military. Ret Brigadier General Kelvin Robert Coppock has lived a very full life, filled with accomplishments and hard work. This is a story of a life that should be well known, not only for his heroic, in the moment, decision making, but for his 34 years of service in the United States Air Force.

Just as Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941) is the “day that shall live in infamy” for America’s “Greatest Generation”, so too is 9/11/2001 for our generation. Few Americans alive that fateful day failed to witness – and none of us can forget – the horrific images of jet airliners smashing into the World Trade Center’s majestic and magnificent Twin Towers and the fiery destruction and cascading devastation, the chaos and the death, that resulted. We all witnessed it, either in real time or in replays, and we thought we knew what happened, but now – for the first time – we are presented with a “behind the scenes” exposé from the highest level of our government: The intelligence briefing presented to President George W. Bush by the US Air Force officer who presented it, General Kelvin Coppock.

Coppock’s recently published book – Destination 9/11 – arrives just as we approach the 20th Anniversary of that infamous and horribly tragic event. A time to remember those that lost their lives and the families so terribly impacted, a time to reflect on what we know, and a time to learn more about it. At a deeper, more personal level, the intertwining braid of Coppock’s most memorable life experiences and most meaningful lessons learned illustrates to all – in all walks of American life – and especially to those just beginning their life careers, how these individually significant episodes build synergistically to prepare a person for a fateful – in this case historic – opportunity and influence the outcome of it.

Expertly written and well-paced, this book is a “must read” for anyone who wishes to know more about the watershed tragedy that befell our nation, terminated nearly 3,000 American lives, injured 25,000 others, and devastated innumerable families. But it is so much more than that, providing much food for thought as we reflect on the immensity and gravity of that horrific event and look inwardly at our own individual life’s story and how it prepares us for our own extraordinary date with destiny.

General Coppock provides the reader with clear insight on what happened on 9/11 and importantly, what did not happen on 9/11. Like all American tragedies, conspiracy theories immediately popped up after 9/11 and some were given credence in the media. General Coppock was there and he leaves no doubt about what went on; all conspiracy theories are completely debunked in this excellent book. Destination 9/11 will become the premier reference for all future discussions of 9/11, including how our intelligence network failed to detect the attack and then immediately responded to provide critical support to the top leaders of our government. A compelling read!

Retired Brigadier General Kelvin Coppock provides a unique perspective of the events leading up to 9/11. His personal life story including the successes and challenges of a career in the U.S. Air Force is an inspirational story of patriotism, leadership, and family all playing a part in the development of a key leader ready to handle the unplanned events of that fateful day. There is no doubt readers will be surprised by the twists and turns of his story. I encourage everyone to read this book!

About the Author

Brig. Gen. Kelvin R. Coppock was Director of Intelligence, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va. As ACC's senior intelligence officer he leads more than 16,000 intelligence operations people and is responsible for intelligence support to 210 active-duty and Reserve component units. The general directs the development of policy, doctrine, organizational concepts, weapons system requirements, tactics, techniques, and procedures applicable to ACC forces worldwide.

General Coppock was commissioned through the U.S. Air Force Academy and began his career as a missile combat crew member at Malmstrom AFB, Mont. He is a master missileer, space operator, senior intelligence officer, and firefighter. He has held several unit, major command, and unified command assignments, as well as tours at the Pentagon, to include the Joint Staff. General Coppock has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels.
