Office Pool: Orientation by D.L. Blackburne

Dear Readers:

There is something to be said about working from home. That's the beauty of being a best-selling author, blogger, and co-owner of Absolute Author Publishing House. I get to work at home, or on a cruise ship, or at the beach. In 2001, I gave up that early morning office reporting by 6:45 a.m. and not getting home until after five. I used to say, "The moment I don't have to get up early to go to the office, is the day I will sleep late." That plan didn't go over so much as I still rise early, drink my coffee, and report to my home office. I don't miss anything about working in an office environment, maybe except the people I interacted with on a daily basis. In fact, one of my best friends used to my secretary and now works with my publishing company.

So, if you miss that office environment or if you love the office environment, I have an author and book for you -- Office Pool: Orientation by D.L. Blackburne.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Office Pool is a coming of age story of an underachieving ink pen named Arthur "Arty" Bickerson. As his unique journey is chronicled as he navigates the ups and downs of "The Office" and it's complexities. Arty experiences new success, love, peer jealousy, classism, along with high expectations and self doubt.
Office Pool is a fictional world with many layers. With humans set as the backdrop, these common everyday writing utensils deal with universally relatable issues and themes.

D.L. Blackburne

Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.
I am Connecticut born, and raised spent many summers staying with family Chicago attended college in CT. Spent 20+ years as a professional artist illustrator, art & design consultant and gallery owner. Relocated to the southeast Surfside Beach, SC in 2013. There, I worked on designer show home interiors. I began writing in late 201and completed two books OFFICE POOL: Orientation, which is available now on Amazon, and OFFICE POOL II: Escalation, which will be released April of 2020. There is a third book in the works. Now back in my home state, I currently split time between Connecticut and California.
What inspired you to author this book?
As an illustrator & painter growing up I always enjoyed looking at something and seeing if I could re-imagine it into something more lively; I didn't always know I had a vivid imagination until I started hanging with my peers. I learned to reign in or dial down the Tim Burton, Dr. Seuss whimsy side of me and learned to like sports and cars etc. One day I sketched out a room layout and had an idea what if these utensils I used virtually everyday had a pulse and their own challenges outside of our own manmade dilemmas. As an adult, I was able to use the same technique I used as a young man and flesh out new pieces as a world of challenges, rules, biases and boundaries emerged.  I feel as children, teens or adults, we can identify with many of these objects infused with emotion. After creating one hundred and fifty plus original paintings and illustrations over the last few decades, writing a series of books seemed like a natural, yet challenging place to divert some that creativity.

Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?
I am a minimalist by nature and I thought a streamlined design approach and title would
draw in a certain reader to see what the book could be about. I had a lot of friends and family pushing for me to add faces to the pens or Illustrate the cover. I didn't want to do the faces on the pens approach since it was a chapter book and not a picture book. I thought the content was just as appealing to teens to adults and wanted intrigue to dictate rather than typecast it completely. I included an illustrated version as a movie promotional poster on the inside at the very end as a compromise. I also too was thinking beyond this book I envisioned the covers to the other forth coming books and the continuity of those releases with this one.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?
I would say Tomie DePoala having met him personally as a young teen, seeing the success and body of work his books had was very inspiring to me growing up.
What were your struggles or obstacles you had to overcome to get this book written?
Endless procrastination, insecurities and self-doubt.
Tell your readers about your book.
This book is a story about individual growth, finding self-confidence, drifting, not a focus, and then all of the sudden having a target to shoot for. It is about wanting to pull back when you succeed too fast and finally feeling comfortable and worthy when you reach a certain level.

Who is your target audience, and why?
Cliché probably to say but I really think everyone or at the very least the majority of the population who can read will or can relate in someway to at least one if not a few of this array of characters.
What do you consider your greatest success in life?
I am a father to wonderful children, so I would have to say them.
What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?
My naivete at the moment its a bliss in itself.

This may be a little strange, but today I am featuring a review of my book NEVER STOP RUNNING and an interview that Gina Mitchell did about me on her blog

REVIEW OF NEVER STOP RUNNING BY GINA MITCHELL

I enjoyed writing my review of Never Stop Running by Dr. Melissa Caudle almost as much as I enjoyed reading the book. I was able to re-live it while writing. What an incredibly gripping psychological thriller.

BUY NOW

This story grabbed me on the opening page and refused to let go. I was instantly caught up in Jackie's story and read the book in one sitting. "Never Stop Running" is based on true regression hypnosis sessions, but the author does an incredible job of creating the fictional story. Reincarnation is a topic that divides many people. If you are not a believer, you will still find this story fascinating for the entertainment factor. It is a psychological thriller in every sense of the genre. Without giving away too much information, the ending was the most stunning I’ve read in a while. I immediately wanted to reread the entire book with my new found knowledge. The premise of amnesia and how it changes interactions within the family is an essential aspect of Never Stop Running. The tragic results of living long term with an amnesiac are heart-wrenching.

I don’t believe you will be disappointed with Never Stop Running by Dr. Melissa Caudle.  Please don’t pass up this 5-star bestselling fiction novel and be sure to let me know what you think when you are finished.

Interview with Dr. Melissa Caudle, author of Never Stop Running by Gina Mitchell

How long have you been writing?

I first started writing while in elementary school. Short, short stories and poetry. When in the seventh grade, I co-authored a book called SUNSHINE MY LOVE with my best friend. Once I became an adult, I published my first book in 1986. The rest is history.

What inspired you to write in this genre?

I write in multiple genres because I love all. My last three novels could be considered part science fiction, but all of them are psychological thrillers too. My next novel, SECRET ROMANCES: A FORBIDDEN THIRST FOR LOVE is a romance novel.

In which genre does your life story belong?

Science Fiction, no doubt.

Do you have a set writing schedule?

I write as soon as I am finished with my first cup of coffee. Writing is my job, and I treat it as such working eight to twelve hours a day, either writing or editing. I take breaks often and do chores or swim now that it is summer.

Do you need silence to write, or can you work in any environment?

I do some of my best work in chaotic situations. I just finished editing A.D.A.M. – THE BEGINNING OF LIFE while on the Royal Princess Cruise to Mexico, and I loved sitting in one of the areas listening to the music or a game show and editing.

If you could set up your perfect writing scenario, what would it involve?

Sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean.

Were you an avid reader growing up?

I constantly read as a child. I often would get into trouble with the school’s librarian because she wouldn’t let me read some books she felt were too difficult for me to understand. What she didn’t realize was when I was in the fourth grade, I could read and comprehend college textbooks. It was very frustrating, so my mother took me to a public library every week, and I was allowed to check out three books at a time.

If you could form the ultimate writers’ group, which authors past or present would you invite to join you?

I would ask Stephen Hawking, Shakespeare, and Leonard Nimoy.

What is your go-to snack food, and do you snack while writing?

I don’t have a go-to snack; I have a go-to cup of coffee always at my side.

Who has influenced your writing the most?

I wouldn’t say I have an influence as I have a unique style of writing – I don’t use dialogue tags. I believe they are cumbersome and not necessary if a writer composes action sentences and great dialogue. However, I had an English teacher that allowed me to be creative in my writing who encouraged me to become a writer.

Must you wear shoes to write?

Not at all. I find them binding.

Is there anything you would like my readers to know about you & your book?

I write both fiction and non-fiction books, but I research all of my material for authenticity. When I authored THE KEYSTROKE KILLER: TRANSCENDENCE, I interviewed several serial killers and survivors. For my book on past-lives and reincarnation, NEVER STOP RUNNING, I interviewed monks, priests, regression hypnotherapists and people who experienced past lives through regression hypnosis.

I want to thank everyone so far who have shown their support for the new book "Becoming Miss Izzy" which launches on June 17, 2019. I had the honor of editing and publishing this book with Absolute Author Publishing House. Please mark your calendars and save the date to purchase the paperback book. The eBook is available for purchase right now on Amazon

BOOK REVIEWS FOR BECOMING MISS IZZY

“All parents would want their kids to handle life’s struggles in the way that Miss Izzy does.  A charming story of a young girl’s challenges with being overweight, lacking confidence, and dealing with mean kids. Izzy is relatable and will inspire readers of all ages not to give up when things happen in life and can get you down.  Becoming Miss Izzy is a great story for not only readers Izzy’s age, but parents and teachers as well.” Mary Urbanik

“What an amazing read!  I couldn’t put it down, and I love books like that!  I found so many similarities in this book to my life with my ten-year-old daughter who is going into fifth grade!  I can’t wait to read this again with my daughter.  She struggles with self-confidence and has the worry of an adult.  So many great topics that are touched on in this book that resonate with my daughter and me.  Raw and real emotions and great lessons along the way.  Absolute must read for pre-teens!” Kelly R.

“Excellent book!  What an amazing read; very well-written and difficult to put down! “Becoming Miss Izzy” was filled with such real and honest emotions when worrying about the future.  I felt these emotions right alongside Izzy.  That’s a difficult thing to do, and kudos to Sue Zook and Mary Lazarski for writing such an important, compelling and fun-to-read book.  I would recommend this book to all girls getting ready to enter middle school.” Diane Philyaw

“This book was a fun read and easy to follow. I like that it addresses the issue of body image in girls and how important it is to break this taboo and talk openly about obesity and how girls are supposed to look and grow into. I enjoyed reading it as an adult and I'm sure it will be even more impactful on girls of Izzy's age. I also really like the front cover, it is so refreshing and makes me smile.” Dr. Jennifer Meyer UK

UPCOMING BOOKS

I have also taken on a new author, C. J. Kruse and his new book "A Guide on How to Calm Down" which will be published this summer. Kruse is a father, husband, musician, and an author of self-help books, relationship books, and Christian non-fiction books.  Hold tight for the launch date as it has not been determined. However, I can say without a doubt, this book is effective. I can write this because after reading it, I used several of the techniques after the worker who installed our new camera security system fell through the ceiling. Until the book is published, Kruse has several other books available on his website or from his Goodreads page.

Get on Board the KSK Series Train

NOVEMBER 8, 2018

WELCOME
WWW.DRMELCAUDLE.COM

You Can Help Your Own Dream Come True

New psychological thriller, The Keystroke Killer: Transcendence by author Dr. Melissa Caudle is a riveting read that keeps you turning the pages. A novel not to be missed if you love to read about serial killers with a science fiction twist in this web of deception full of twists and turns and the unexpected up to the very last word. Available on Amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/dp/1718872569 in paperback and on Kindle.

Autographed copies available at www.drmelcaudle.com. Only if you dare to enter the world of The Keystroke Killer. Not for the faint of heart.

Please be advised, the more copies which are sold, the higher the rankings on Amazon. The higher the rankings on Amazon, the more likely this will be picked up as a series and put actors and film production crew to work. If not, it won't be picked up.
This is your chance to help KSK become a television series. If you have believed in the dream, help your own dream come true by purchasing either the E-book on Kindle or the paperback version. Don't rely on somebody else, take matters into your own hands. The television series won’t be picked up unless this really sells and the fans of KSK can have a direct impact on that.

There are several things you can do that will help this dream come true for all of us:

1. Help spread the word and get your friends to buy the book. Share, share and share. And, I don't mean my link. I mean your own post. The more widespread on social media, the better. This includes you tweeting about it, Instagram, etc. I can't spread the word by myself.
2. If you have bought the book already, please review it honestly on Amazon and on Goodreads. The more reviews the better. But I want an honest review good or bad. So far, I have a five-star rating!
3. If you are a member of a book club, recommend it to your members. If it is a local New Orleans Club or within a 100 mile radius I will gladly come for a book signing event.
4. Ask your local library or college librarian to purchase the book for their collection.
5. If you are friends of a radio show host or television talk show, ask them to have me onto their show.
6. You could consider boosting your post about "The Keystroke Killer" for as little as $5, $10, $20 to help get the word out. I have purchased many ads on Google, Goodreads, Facebook, Amazon, and will continue, so rest assured I'm doing my part, but the more people investing to spread the word on an individual basis increases the awareness of the book and the potential series.
7. If you are local and want to throw a party for your friends and family to meet me and have me sign autographs, I’ll do that too.
8. If you have a website, consider backlinking my site to yours. I will do the same. We both win.
9. If you are an author, I have a page on my website where I will put your book, in exchange if you will add me to yours. The more exchange of links increases both of our efforts on Google.

A Little Can Go a Long Way in Making Dreams Come True

Think of it this way, for as little as $9.99 for the E-book, you could be investing in yourself or simply helping the KSK family. Since when does that happen by buying a book? While you are at it, buy two or three and give them away as Christmas presents, just don’t give it to someone under eighteen.
Please don't consider this as me only promoting my book and wanting it to sell my book for selfish reasons. I didn't intend for it to come across this way. I have held onto this dream and fought hard for all of us. Together we can make this happen.
