DR. MEL'S MESSAGE - From my novels to my other projects, no telling what you will read. This is the only place you will get to read about how I developed a screenplay into a novel and what is the driving force. I will talk about many things from films to books to acting to producing. It really will depend on where my mind takes me. I hope you will join me on this journey.
I'm sixty-five, and I never dreamed that I would live through a worldwide Pandemic. However, once COVID-19 took hold, we all were in the same boat. Were you scared? Did your stockpile toilet paper? Did you rush to get the vaccine when it was first available? It's really not important that you answer these questions. The answers are for you. You are the only one who knows what you went through. For some, finding ways to spend our time safely at home became cumbersome and very tiresome. For others, like me, I took it as an opportunity to regroup and write. I wasn't the only one. Today's BOOK OF THE DAY, "A Brighter TOMORROW," by Lori Schneider, MD is one example. Schneider put her energy into writing poetry to create a beautiful and brighter tomorrow. The poems are incredible and heartfelt. I love this book and it makes for a wonderful gift for those who are homebound, ill, depressed, or suffering. But, don't stop there, it's great for anyone who desires a brighter tomorrow. Order your copy today!
No one could have truly predicted the mass devastation of the Pandemic of 2019. Everyone in the world has been affected and forever changed in some way by the pandemic. Hopefully, most people will emerge as better human beings, with a greater level of understanding and support for their fellow man.
During this tumultuous time, I was overwhelmed with emotions regarding COVID-19, politics, racial injustice, love, and courage. I turned to pen and paper to express my feelings and discovered poetry as an extremely cathartic form of writing.
Through poetry, I found great insight and solace during a very dark time in history. I believe poetry is the window to the soul that can help illuminate the darkness.
I hope the reader finds great comfort and hope for the future through the poetry and beautiful artwork contained in this book. Together we can have a brighter tomorrow!

"An endless palette of brilliant colors, Creates a new world to discover. Artist and viewer forever transformed, By a masterpiece expertly adorned." ("The Artist").
Are you looking for a poem that managed to tug on your heartstrings and keep you up late at night thinking about them? In the one-of-a-kind book A Brighter Tomorrow, the author Lori Schneider, MD, weaves a stimulating collection of poetry to share with the world. The book's focus is on the current pandemic and covid-19, but it also tackles various themes like hope and despair, love and injustice, and courage and creativity.
For starters, I'll admit I am a big fan of poems because they manage to tell the tale of a thousand words in a few mere sentences wonderfully. So A Brighter Tomorrow definitely managed to live up to my expectations. The poems are neatly organized into seven different parts. With each one, an aesthetic artwork goes with it to deepen the meaning and message. There are also intriguing quotes from people like Deepak Chopra, Johnny Corn, Robert J. Kennedy, Harper Lee, Anne Frank, and more. In the poem "We are the same, you and me," the author emphasizes how tenuous peace is and that it can easily be shattered if greed or hate gets in the way, and she encourages us to see each other not by the land we were born on, but as fellow human beings. And in "Hope," the readers are reminded that even in the darkest times, nothing is hopeless. But these are just a few examples. The book holds much more magic.
I loved how this book had a somewhat therapeutic and soothing effect on me. While reading the poems, I found myself nodding in acknowledgment, smiling in pleasure, sighing in disappointment as I recognized some of the problems listed there, and taking a trip down memory lane. The whole time, I was mesmerized by the author's easy-to-read writing style and compelling storytelling; the poems were written in a quite simple way, not challenging to understand in the least, but they held their own kind of magic. The transition from one stanza to another was smooth and rhythmic. It's not every day you find poems complex in their simplicity.
I highly recommend A Brighter Tomorrow to people who are struggling during covid-19 or like thoughtful art and poems.
This book was a wonderful read. There is nothing I disliked about it. In conclusion, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.
A Brighter Tomorrow by Dr. Lori Schneider is an inspirational and thought-provoking book of poems that cover an array of topics. The book serves as a diary in which Lori Schneider discusses the Covid- 19 pandemic, racial injustice, love, and many more issues. Each poem is accompanied by beautiful eye-catching images. These images make the reader stop and reflect on the verse that they have just read and ponder how the images relate to the words.
The topic of the pandemic is incredibly precious, as Dr. Schneider is a practicing neurologist and more than likely had an up-close look at the chaos and horror of the Covid-19 pandemic. Writing poetry was her way of coping with this dark time that engulfed the world
Schneider does not shy away from showing her emotional and vulnerable side. By doing so, her poems seem more relatable and honest, making this a valuable read for those struggling to manage the complex feelings of this time. Her poems are inspiring and uplifting, and I appreciate that through a dark time, she found light through writing.
The book is divided into several different topics, with each topic clearly important to the author and significant moments that have impacted us as a society. Schneider's poems are not overladed with metaphors or overly complicated word choices, making this a smooth read that is accessible to readers on many levels. With the diversity of topics, there is something for all readers to find and connect with.
Dr. Lori Schneider's poems are candid and evoke emotions in the readers, making this one book hard to put down. Yet, this is one book that can be read over again and shared with friends. A Brighter TOMORROW is the collection of poetry we all need to heal from these past few years."
Dr. Mark Salevitz and I graduated from the New York University School of Medicine in 1990. The world was a very different place at that time. The Twin Towers still stood proudly, welcoming people to Manhattan. It was an exciting time in science, with the beginning of the Human Genome Project and the Hubble space telescope launch. The world celebrated Germany's reunification and the independence of the Baltic states from the Soviet Union.
Dr. Salevitz and I were filled with great hope and excitement about the future as we embarked upon our residencies. We both dedicated the past three decades to the practice of medicine. Nothing in our training could have adequately prepared us for the massive suffering and devastation caused by the Pandemic of 2019. Our hearts go out to all healthcare and essential workers on the front line who risked their own lives and worked tirelessly to help others. It was because of their selfless dedication that our country remained functioning. All these amazing people and their astounding courage inspired me to write this book.
The year 2020 also held one of the most contentious and polarized presidential elections in American history. The election pitted brother against brother and caused emotional distress that will take years to heal. Sadly, racial tension and injustice reached an alarming level. It was during this challenging time that I discovered poetry as a way to find great insight and solace. I hope the reader derives comfort and inspiration from the poetry and original artwork contained in this book. Together, we can achieve a brighter tomorrow.
Dr. Lori Schneider is a neurologist and medical acupuncturist. She received a bachelor of science in biology and a medical degree from New York University. Dr. Schneider completed a residency in neurology at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in Long Island, New York. She and her husband, Dr. Jean-Pierre Riou, live in Cornelius, North Carolina, where they have owned and operated a private medical practice since 1994. They have two beautiful grown children, Jessica and Justin, and two adorable cats, Jesse and Jasmine. Over the years, Dr. Schneider has written research papers for medical journals and health-education articles for local magazines. However, she had not done any creative writing since college. It was not until the Pandemic of 2019 that Dr. Schneider discovered her love of poetry. Overwhelmed with emotions regarding politics, racial injustice, love, courage, and the devastation caused by COVID-19, Dr. Schneider found catharsis and hope for the future by writing poetry. She hopes her writing helps her readers find peace and inspiration for the future, following this very dark and tumultuous time in history.
Today's BOOK OF THE DAY is timely as it confronts the global pandemic and the aftermath. I must say, in my profession as a professional editor and owner of a publishing company, Absolute Author Publishing House, I have come across many books discussing the pandemic and COVID-19. However, this is the first one that challenges the reader and discusses it in so much detail. It isn't a quick read, but it is well worth it. Do you know what really happened and is still happening? Find out in "Pandemic Aftermath: How Coronavirus Changes Global Society" by Trond Undheim.
A tour de force
of contemporary social science by a futurist at the forefront of technology and
change.
We are in the pandemic now, but what happens next? The book
offers five ways to look at the coming future, crafted as scenarios, based on
the author's study of the forces of disruption that brought on the pandemic. It
offers suggestions to remedy its consequences, or even enable segments of
society to thrive on it. The first portion of the book is non-fiction. The
second portion is a scenario-based novel, the book charts new territory by
interweaving the grim reality of 2020 with a first-person exploration of the
next decade as if we were already in it. The five scenarios considered are:
Borderless world, Nation state renewal, Two worlds apart, Hobbesian chaos, and
Status Quo.

Author, Speaker, and Activist Samantha Jewel Addresses Environment Issues in her Book "Elegant Solutions for Addressing Climate Change"
Tuesday, April 2, 2020, 12:00 AM CDT
“Jewel addresses many topics with hard knowledge on the impact of our destructive decision on the environment and our food sources.”
Samantha Jewel has been an activist for climate change since the late 1990s with the outbreak of Mad Cow Disease. She recognized the need for changes then, and now with the global pandemic of COVID-19, she says it is increasingly more important that changes occur and addresses the issues in her book “Elegant Solutions for Addressing Climate Change.”
Melbourne, Australia – March 31, 2020 – Skeptic or not, the earth is affected by what we do, and often, our actions can be detrimental to the environment, according to the author, speaker, and activist Samantha Jewel. Jewel says, “There are plenty of people who don’t believe that climate change impacts us and turn away from the problem. I contend that if you eat, you are involved.” In her book, “Elegant Solutions," which is available in six languages, Jewel addresses many topics with hard knowledge on the impact of our destructive decision. “We stand on the brink of global outcome that threatens not only our very basic requirements but also our very ability to survive. We may all be eating ourselves into starvation,” Jewel says. “I wrote this book to describe how our survival and our smallest actions create a butterfly effect.”
Jewel has been an activist for climate change since the late 1990s with the outbreak of Mad Cow Disease. She recognized the need for changes then, and now with the global pandemic of COVID-19, she says it is increasingly more important that changes occur. “Until now, it has been about government and multi-national players following systems, processes, and structures of their making, coupled with a massive loss of trust in the media,” Jewel says. “However, a subtle shift in power and information accessibility has flipped the models for participation, poised for the revival of a counterforce – the up-swell of ideas, techniques, unity, and elegance to address a very serious topic with far greater of an impact. The bottom line is, if we keep doing what we’ve always done, we’ll continue to get what we’ve always got… and we want that to stop. People feel scared and isolated during this pandemic. We must address the reasons why and children need to know why this is happening. Everything is connected.”
Not only did Jewel publish “The Song for the Underworld," for ages three to six she also wrote “The Adventures of Celine and Alice,” for ages nine through thirteen, which are two picture books for children that relate to climate change as an adventure into the world of microbe battles.
“I finished reading Elegant Solutions last night, and it was great! I’m going to share it on my Meteorologist Facebook page. I’d love for someone that is against funding climate change and sustainable solutions to read it. It put the science in a more understandable read.” – Jessica Medlin, Meteorology PHD
“Elegant Solutions is a thoroughly engaging, highly informative, easily readable book posing achievable solutions for addressing the climate issue through the food we eat and the way we grow it.”

What inspired you to author The Song of the Underworld?
Mad cow disease, my own pregnancy and serving 50,000 clusters a
week... I became dedicated to educating people after I researched all items we
brought in to feed customers each week. My family created the first restaurant
chain in Australia in 1965 starting with one small store in a lane in South
Australia. I was a 70 hr. a week exec oblivious to what was in our food until I
developed complications in my pregnancy that made me question everything I
knew.
Where did you get the
inspiration for The Song of the Underworld?
The cover is my ex partner’s
interpretation of my description of the two main protagonist forces in the book
the aerobic (good) bacteria and the virus that hitched a ride on the back of
the bad airless anaerobic bacteria. I used Alice in the younger version but in
the older one I wanted a more gritty griping story.
Who has been the most
significant influence on you personally and as a writer?
There have been many key
players mainly gray haired dedicated farmers and researchers passionately
screaming in the wind about what we now see evident in Covid. This imbalance is
closer to home as the microbe is able to kill us individually, but our
imbalance actually starts in the soil. The outbreak center was over a province
with some of the highest intensive agriculture in the planet with chemical
usage so profound that what’s more surprising is how long this has taken and
really how mild it is. Far worse is in store for us if we don’t wake up to our
responsibility to the earth and our bodies to keep them healthy and understand
the ‘biomes’ we talk about in our gut, in our brain causing dementia, are the
same in animals, plants and the soil. A single teaspoon of seawater has
trillions of microbes. Just because we could not see the curve of the earth did
not mean it was flat...
As we expand our respect for nature must deepen and our arrogance diminish if
we are to survive our over population of the planet. We can do it but revering
regenerative practices and the role of insects and wildlife as well as trees...
which we can see so it feels better, is vital to our survival.
What were your struggles or obstacles you
had to overcome to get this book written?
The book cams easily as it poured out of me. The craft of
writing is another thing. I did not write them to become a writer. I’m a
sculptor so this is my life passion as well!! I think my writing is clumsy my
grammar terrible, but my voice is strong. I still love the story and I wrote it
many years ago.
Tell your readers about your book.
This story is based around the heroine Alice who has a magical
journey into the world of good and bad microbes in an epic battle for survival
both in the soil and unwittingly us! The good microbes are losing due to our
actions and the little girl travels to learn and saves her community through
her actions. It’s an uplifting story for children.
I feel it is appropriate at this time. The Corona virus is a multi-species,
animal virus that, should our deep forests, rich in unknown and opposing,
diverse microbes have been kept intact, would have preserved the virus in
balance. We are at an existential crisis and we must seek to help educate our
children not to make the same exclusionist, reductionist mistakes we have made.
This is a time to educate, reflect and listen to the ancient wisdoms that
abound around us to find the best way for our children.
Who is your target audience, and why?
This book is for preteens still able to see wonder in the world
before Sex hormones take them away for many years...
It’s to engage their passion for help. To maybe tell their parents why they
need to eat healthy alive food?
What do you consider
your greatest success in life?
Possibly my two-tone marble
carving? But then I also marvel at the young men my children are becoming i
raised alone from nine-years-old and so I watch how deep they are in
understanding life that they have gleaned from all my rantings!
What one unique thing
sets you apart from other writers in your genre?
I come from such a unique
background of food whilst being a full time artist! Writing is an art form like
marble carving that takes a lifetime to craft. My craft is weak in this field
but my expression as an artist will always be there in anything I create.
