Where did you get the inspiration for your book’s cover?

Career experiences allow me to create the acronym of CRAVE. I wanted to make sure it was the focus of the book.

Who has been the most significant influence on you personally and as a writer?

My parents have been a great influence in my life. My father for having to make a life-altering decision (integrity) that resulted in my immediate family having to leave our country of origin and relocate to NYC. My father became disabled, and my mother had to work in a sweatshop after becoming a University professor in our country of origin. The struggles we faced were many, but they were a rock!

Professionally I am influenced by John Maxwell. I have a certification as a John Maxwell Coach, Speaker, and Trainer. Also, Adam Grant and Malcolm Gladwell.

I had several struggles. I work in healthcare, and the past three years have been exhausting with this pandemic; this is obvious. Long hours at work. Also, personal life-changing event.

Tell your readers about your book.

Leadership is the greatest responsibility one can carry, but what makes a great leader? There are some who say leaders are born. Others say leaders are molded and developed. One thing is for sure. Being a great leader takes more than a desire to be in charge. It is a full-time commitment where you must understand all there is to know about your subordinates and place them ahead of yourself. How many times have you or your office languished under a lack of guidance or the absence of a strong leader? The sad truth is too many people are promoted into leadership roles without having the proper training or structure to make them and you effective. LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES discusses how being a great leader can affect the entire organization and what it means to become one.

There are several key traits defining a great leader:

           • Communication

           • Respect

           • Authenticity

           • Vulnerability

           • Empathy

The key metrics are discussed in depth with LEADERSHIP ATTRIBUTES as you begin your transition from a good leader to a great one. Everyone is entitled to great leadership; by understanding what that means, you make your team or office better and enhance yourself in ways that payout tenfold. Good leaders are successful, but great leaders can change the world.

Who is your target audience, and why?

Professionals looking to get into leadership positions or ones in leadership positions currently.

What do you consider your greatest success in life?

For me, making my family proud and keeping God at the center of my life. I have numerous achievements, but no one could be possible without God and the support of my loved ones.

My personal motto - Loving People. Loving Self

What one unique thing sets you apart from other writers in your genre?

Building Better Leaders & a Better World Nowadays, climbing to the top of metaphorical ladders in one’s career and strategizing ways to do less work for more return is the norm. Not only are such behaviors generally accepted, but they’re also widely encouraged. As a result, people are less likely to lend a helping hand to those in need and use their talents for transformation. Like many of you, I’m no stranger to hardship. As a child, I migrated with my family from the Dominican Republic to New York City, where we faced seemingly endless adversity. Between language barriers and culture shock, I found it difficult to find my footing in such a foreign place and yearned for well-intentioned guidance. Still, I chose to dive headfirst into new challenges and found myself emerging from the other side as a better, more well-rounded person. Now, I’m committed to guiding others to do the same, providing the right strategies to help you achieve your goals, transform your workplace, and positively impact your community.

A People-First Approach As someone with extensive experience as a professor, servant leader, and professional speaker with a John Maxwell Certification, I have honed my mentorship skills with critical attention to detail, experimenting with various techniques and learning from colleagues I admire. As a result, I’ve developed a passion for serving others and galvanizing others to grow their skills and adopt an altruistic mindset that puts people above profits. I lend my expertise to help you navigate obstacles, practice self-improvement, and determine ways you can best serve your community. Whether you dream of starting your own business, need to recalibrate your career path or leverage your strengths for the better, I share valuable insights to help you do so. Together, we forge a symbiotic relationship in which we learn from each other and value opposing opinions.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Workers in 2021 are dealing with an unprecedented volume of stressors, and managers need to respond with compassion, asserts executive advisor Pallapa. This requires acknowledging the effects of the pandemic, racial injustice, and economic upheaval, and developing empathy on both a personal and organizational level in order to support a stressed, overwhelmed workforce." - Publishers Weekly

From the Inside Flap

Leadership is about more than outlining a compelling vision for the future and commanding one’s followers to achieve it. True leadership involves a genuine understanding of what other people are feeling, seeing things from their viewpoint, and imagining yourself in their place.

In Leading with Empathy: Understanding the Needs of Today’s Workforce, an accomplished executive and business leader Dr. Gautham Pallapa delivers an inspiring call to action on becoming an empathic leader. Organized into three parts, the book begins with a candid acknowledgment of the adversity facing people worldwide as they suffer through recent events, including the Covid-19 pandemic, unemployment, Black Lives Matter protests, and the economic downturn.

Following that, the author describes the role of empathy in understanding how negative events affect us as human beings and how it can be a panacea in combating the anguish and suffering experienced by people from all walks of life. He also discusses what steps and actions empathic leaders can and should embrace to enable their workforce and others around them to achieve their full potential. Finally, the author explores his belief that one can only achieve progress through strategic disruption.

The book is full of enlightening anecdotes and stories that bring to life the ideas and concepts within the book. It also includes a variety of straightforward exercises and simple tips to reduce stress and anxiety and increase happiness and positivity.

Leading with Empathy: Understanding the Needs of Today’s Workforce is a must-read for anyone who finds themselves in a leadership position. By re-centering empathy in the framework of effective leadership, the author offers readers a powerful tool to lead others.
